1.Hanmer Springs Hot Pools

Pre-purchase a Pools Plus loyalty deal on line prior to coming up. During the Winter months will be open 10am to 6pm. This will be reviewed later in the year.Remember busiest times are on the weekends, so a great option is to come and stay at Aspen Lodge Motel during the week.There is  more room to spread out with the new cascading hot pools and the new children’s play area proving a great success with families. The hydra slides are very popular  for all ages and there is no additional costs involved for you to use these.For pure stress relief you can book a package  for a spa treatment. You can also hire out private indoor pools. 2.Local Short Walks

Take in a relaxing stroll, a favourite one is, Cross the road from Aspen into the Hospital grounds track, follow to end then cross back across the lawn and out by Leamington St on Amuri Ave. Walk down Leamington St about 150m then turn right taking the descending track down to the Dog-Stream track. Follow this around till you see the sign to go up to Cheltenham St. Follow this and along Cheltenham St and back down Jacks Pass Road to Aspen in Hanmer. Alternatively you can continue pass the sign and follow the rest of the Dog stream till you come out on Jollies Pass Road and follow that back into the village.The Amble walk is one of the most popular  especially with the addition of  the carved statues in the forest along the way. Phamplet’s available for this walk. Great for all age groups. There are also short walks thru the forest such as Forest Journey and the shorter Forest Walk. Phamplet’s available on these short walks. All of these walks are able to  be accessed by setting off  from your Motel room. Another great reason to stay at Aspen Lodge Motel for its close central locality.

3. Favourite Walks in Hanmer.

Your trip to Hanmer should include the Famous Conical Hill walk taking in the great alpine views. Part way down you will see a seat and a sign veering off to the left taking you down the Majuba walk. You can turn right at the bottom and follow around the Woodland walk or continue, this brings  you out beside Squirell lake. You can then  turn right and follow the track back to the road on to Bristol St and back to the village or you could turn left and follow the Woodland trail back to the carpark area  at the entrance to the Hanmer Forest. Cross over Jollies Pass Road  and either take the Amble walk which includes the famous Redwood carvings turning right at the Picnic Table and descend  and then back over the bridge and take the turnoff to Cheltenham St and back to Aspen Lodge Motel. Alternatively,  you could cross over Jollies Pass Road turn left  and then turn right into the forest on  the Forest Journey trail This will bring you out in Brooke Dawson Park where you cross the bridge and ascend up to Bath Street and the stroll back into the village via Amuri Ave path way in the Trees. 4. Mountain Biking

A mountain Bike ride is a perfect way to start off the day. If you haven’t brought one with you , then you can hire them here in the village, they also hire E bikes as well.The great thing about being in Hanmer Springs is within  a couple of minutes you are immersed in the Nature wilderness away from it all in this Alpine Paradise.The trails in the Heritage Forest are less demanding and if a hot morning, ideal to stay cooler.Easy Rider would be one of the most popular especially for families.The real trails are up on the other side with 4 differing grades to suit the riders fitness. There are now 10 in the Easy category, 11 in  Intermediate, 7 in  Advanced and 2 in Expert. Most are loop tracks but easy enough to start another to take you to different parts of the forest.The Network of tracks is one of the best in NZ and we get many enthusiasts from Nelson, Otago and West Coast coming over just to experience our trails. Give it a go! There is now a brand new bike cleaning facility available at the end of your ride where you can clean-up.

5. Hiking

The  Favourite is the Waterfall Track. Ideal after heavy rains for good display of falls cascading 41m down into a serene pool.This is about a 2hr to 2.5hr walk.return. Take your vehicle down Jollies Pass Road pass the Forest camp turn left at signpost and follow the track thru to the carpark area. From there you can walk up the newly graded track which has made it so much more pleasant to climb in the upper section of the walk. You can ascend up on the Mt Isobel track climbing to the peak for the best views in town. Check the weather conditions first. Especially wind. If you take your vehicle into the  Clarence Valley Carpark about 8km in you can ascend Mt Isobel from there and return. The other favourite is from the same carpark ascend  Mt Dumblane, one of the locals rates that as his favourite spot to go up there in the evening and watch the stars or full moon. The Chatswood Track is another beautiful walk full of  unrivalled birdlife  and great views. This pleasant hike starts at the end of Jacks Pass Road down a shingle track by the motor-camp. There are many other trails and adventures to be had in Hanmer Springs. All they need is YOU!

6. Outdoor Pursuits to get the Blood Flowing.

Hanmer Springs  is blessed  with the choices of  Outdoor  pursuits. Some of the most fun  is within minutes of your motel some operators even pick you up and take you to  your start point then drop you back.Many offer great deals such as on Grab One. There are two firms operating exhilarating jet boat rides  along the Waiau River. This is very popular. They also have whitewater rafting,canoeing and Bungy jumping. There is quad bike adventure trips, clay-bird shooting and archery. You can book online or thru us for these activities. Preferably book in advance of your arrival as there is limited numbers. One thing about them they are definitely memorable and worthy of your tourist dollar. If you fancy more leisurely activities then how about some fly fishing in the many fine spots in both lakes and rivers. We have a number of guests who come in from other parts of NZ and overseas  just to fish for three or  four days. Most don’t bring their wife’s though! Another past-time worthy of mention is horse-trekking. Hanmer horse-treks offer several packages  for you to explore the alpine area at your leisure.They shuttle you to and from the village.

7. Mini Golf and Shopping

A game of either mini golf at Alpine Putt (check out there new course) which is centrally located in Conical Hill Road, or quick walk across the Hospital grounds and down the Crawford Track will take you to a unique little course of Pitch’n’Putt. Great fun for all. Further out of town is  Amaze-n-golf  with a themed gold rush 18 hole course and  Lost temple Adventure Maze Fun for all family
For some extra fun take a ride on a Village Cruiser around the Village. These are a shriek for everyone.Have a Browse in the shopping precinct and see whats on offer. Frequently finding items you can’t find elsewhere.One of the favourite’s would be The Fresh Fudge shop, with a great range of the Best fudge available. Our guests love it especially when they are treated for Birthdays or Anniversary’s.Visit the fashion shops  for different types of clothing not found elsewhere, A special  favourite is Kjole bringing in clothing from Denmark. Micky Raes also has a great range of interesting products. There is a Great display of art works for sale available. And,The great thing is everything is so central and easily walked to from your Motel room here at Aspen lodge Motel.

8. Day Trip Excursion

Alternatively how about a different experience.?? How about a drive into the Molesworth Clarence Valley region.this road is subject to weather conditions so parts of it may have signage telling you it is closed. Call into the 4 square or Mumbles and pickup some fresh picnic food and drink and sand-fly repellent (in case they are feeding), then carry on down Jacks Pass Road just pass the Medical Centre, turn right into the Clarence Valley Road. Take the road out to Lake Tennyson. This is a beautiful and scenic area and the Lake is very tranquil sitting some 1100m above sea level.There is a track that follows around the lake taking around 2.5hrs to circumnavigate.(easier to do this clockwise).If Fishing is your hobby and passion, then take your rod and license with you.The Clarence River is nearby offering good fishing. Take time to explore this environment if you have a good 4 wheel drive and the road is fine you could return back via Jollies Pass but it is a lot rougher and frequented by logging trucks so take care out there. It is an area where weather conditions change quickly so check before you leave. You are fairly isolated with limited phone.

9. Food and Dining

Try an Evening Meal at one of the fine choices of eateries.During weekends it is  best to pre-book preferably before you arrive.One of the most popular for our guests would be The Old Post Office Restaurant, Saints and Alpine Chinese Restaurant are also very popular and very handy to walk to.Great food great prices. We also have a great dumpling Restaurant (the #1 dining experience) under the name of MKs and two Indian Restaurants both of which do Takeaways as well. Spice Village is the premium fine dining choice for most of our guests.Guests can pre-browse in their rooms as we have menus for these in our Compendium.For that special occasion  No31 will create the atmosphere and fine dining you require. For Pub atmosphere entertainment and food then Monteiths and O’Flynns ticks all the boxes for a good night out. The town is over-run with takeaway options, Mr Yunan provides great Asian style food delivered to your room. Mumbles and PJs offer the best fish and chip options and for pizza Springs Pizza is a popular choice. There are also lots of options if burgers are your culinary delight with top pick going to PJs.
